MONTEREY BAY AREA COUNCIL attends Blair Atholl's 2008 International Jamborette
 

Scouts' Own on the Castle lawn

  • Jamborette in England

  • The 31st Scottish International Patrol Jamborette will be held at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland.

  • There are expected to be about 1000 International Scouts and 350 International leaders attending the event.

Dates

Mid July 2008 and returning min August 2008. 

Age Ranges

The contingent will be open to Scouts and Ventures' aged between 14 years and 17 years 11 months on 31st July 2008.

Patrols

A Patrol should consist of not more than 6 Scouts, including the Patrol Leader. The Scouts can be composed of Scouts from a single Troop, or from several troops. Patrols that include female Scouts are welcome and will be fully integrated into the Camp. The Council may send more than one Patrol. Patrols will form a national contingent and they will travel together. In camp, each Patrol will camp with a Scottish Patrol.. A Scottish and an overseas patrol will operate as one unit. The Scottish Patrol will provide tents and cooking equipment for both patrols. Cooking is done in patrols over wood fires. Dining shelters will be constructed in each patrol site with pioneering timber.

Program

There will an exciting program of Scouting Activities. And of course a real opportunity to make new friends.

Equipment

  • For Scouts coming from outside of Scotland, only personal camp equipment is required.

  • Other camping equipment will be provided by the Scottish Patrol who will receive a detailed kit list in due course from their local Blair Atholl representative.

Trip Fee

  • The Trip Fee is set at $3,200 for MBAC Participants.  You should Start Saving Now.

The Fee includes all food, activities, camp badge, neckerchief, and home hospitality gift.  It also includes the cost of travel to London, Edinburgh, Stirling, Blair Atholl, from the camp to home hospitality and return to a central meeting place, in Scotland, for our trip back to the USA.

Travel Plans

Our travel plans include a three-day stay in London, England.  We will travel to Edinburgh by train and stay in Edinburgh for three days to enjoy the sites, shopping, and Edinburgh Castle.  We will also visit Stirling Castle and climb the William Wallace (Braveheart) Monument.  We will travel by train to the Jamborette at Blair Atholl. 

Home Hospitality

After the Jamborette, Scouts from Overseas will be offered hospitality for up to 5 days in the homes of Scottish Scouts. Exact dates will be arranged to suit travel arrangements.

The contingent leader for 2008 will be Al Friedrich with support by the Crew Chairman, Norcliff Wiley.

Applications for the 2010 Jamborette will be available in September 2008

In the year 2006 Monterey Bay Area Council and the Kiwanis Club Help support 12 Venturing Scout's from Crew 44.  the event lead them to a 3.5 week long trip to England and around the county side experiencing Scouting from its roots.  Once there a 4 day Jamborette took place on the lands of Blair Atholl.  This event comprised of hundreds of thousands of Scouts from around the world.  Norcliff Wiley could fill you in with more details should you be interested in leaning more about this epic adventure.
