Highlights of the 100th BSA Anniversary Celebration
• A Year of Celebration--A Century of
Making a Difference, nationwide. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
Venturers, and adults will be able to participate in local activities and
service projects as determined
by each unit, and qualify for embroidered emblem patches created for the 100th
Anniversary,
beginning in September 2009 and continuing to December 2010. Requirements to
earn the patch
emblems will be announced in Scouting magazine and at
www.scouting.org
• National Hall of Leadership, nominations accepted from now until February 8,
2010. This is a
special one-time opportunity to nominate an outstanding Scout, Venturer, or
adult (current or former
member) who has positively impacted the lives of others. Nominees will be
recognized both locally
and nationally, and at least one person from each local BSA council in the
country will be announced
at the BSA National Annual Meeting in Dallas in May 2010. Nominations may be
made by anyone
and submitted online at
http://ww2.scouting.org/100years/100years/nationalhallofleadership.aspx
• 100th Anniversary Scout-O-Rama, fall 2009-spring 2010, three district
locations. Each district in
our council plans to hold a local Scout-O-Rama to show off Scouting to the
public, share fun
activities, and encourage new families to join Scouting. Districts will be
distributing the details to
unit leaders at June roundtables and other upcoming venues.
• March on the Capitol, October 25, 2009, Sacramento.
Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and
adults will travel by train or by car to Sacramento, and walk as a group down
Capitol Mall to greet
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and state leaders. Local host Golden Empire
Council is also
working on discounts for BSA members to visit local museums and attractions
later that day
following the March. Details on the GEC website at
www.gec-bsa.org/program/capmarch
• Monterey Bay Area Council Celebration and Reunion, February 20, 2010, Monterey.

• BSA Anniversary Day, February 8, 2010, your community. The
actual 100th birthday of the Boy
Scouts of America will be the day for each local community to celebrate
Scouting. Cub Scouts, Boy
Scouts, and Venturers should wear their BSA uniform at school on Monday,
February 8, and adult
Scouters to wear their uniforms at work. Scouts, adults, and families will
gather with their local
chartered organizations that evening to commemorate the anniversary, and express
appreciation to
their chartered organization and unit leaders.
• West Coast Jamboree, April 16-19, 2010, Alameda County Fairgrounds.
Ten councils in the
greater San Francisco Bay Area, including our own Monterey Bay Area Council, are
working to stage
the largest four-day Scouting event seen in California since the 1953 National
Jamboree. More than
just a camporee or a Scout-O-Rama, it will be open to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
Venturers, adults, and
families, with Cub Scout parent-son camping, and traditional jamboree style
camping for Boy Scouts
and Venturers. Many special activities in theme-based areas will be held on
Friday and Saturday.
